HOW TO GET STARTED

ENTRY LEVEL

Correctional Officer applicants with no correctional officer experience are required to take a written exam as the first stage of the application process. The exam is offered on an ongoing basis and we do currently have open positions. The exam can be scheduled here: National Testing Network Correctional Officer Exam. Be sure to select the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in which to apply.

Those who receive a passing score on the exam will automatically be put onto our hiring list for further consideration. Next steps include an oral interview, background check, psychological evaluation, and medical evaluation. Individuals will be contacted for next steps as positions become available.

LATERAL (EXPERIENCED)

Correctional Officer applicants with at least one year of full time correctional officer experience can forego the entry level written exam by sending a copy of your resume to the Sheriff’s Executive Secretary, Teresa, at tschleinz@champaigncountyil.gov.

Next steps include an oral interview, background check, psychological evaluation, and medical evaluation. Individuals will be contacted for next steps as positions become available.
